The Movie World According to me!

The Lifeguard, starring Kristen Bell was difficult to watch at times. I get the whole being confused and needing a break from your life but the adults in this movie went too far. One 29 year old character is sleeping with a 16 year old, another adult character makes a move on a teen that is expressing things about his sad and depressing life, and the Principal of the school is hanging out with all of these people watching them get drunk and high. This movie hurt my soul to watch, especially when no one seems to care that this 29 year old female is sleeping with a 16 year old male. The father says, “…[he’s] getting laid.” Would this be the sentiment if the sexes were reversed?

Lars and the Real Girl
Release Date: October 25, 2007
Rating: 5 Out of 5 Stars
Plot Outline: Ryan Gosling plays an awkward young man that falls in love with a Sex Doll, Bianca that he buys on the internet.
I absolutely loved this movie. The plot was so original and the acting was phenomenal. Ryan Gosling is nothing short of incredible. I love that he always reaches out, above the norm and plays a wide range of roles.
While watching Lars and the Real Girl, my eyes were glued to the screen. I had to use the bathroom pretty badly but I would not get up. I did not want to miss a single second.
I was also impressed with how Bianca became a real person. She becomes personified to everyone. We actually like her and the chemistry between her and the characters. It is very fascinating and highly impressive.
Lars and the Real Girl was addicting and I found myself not wanting the movie to end, though it ended wonderfully. It could not have had a better conclusion. The actors were perfect for their parts. Everyone fit so well. It all came together through their excellent acting, especially Lars’ brother, sister in law, and Bianca’s doctor. All I can say is that this movie is fantastic in every way, shape, and form. And that everyone should go see this masterpiece!

Idiocracy
My Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
Release Date: September 1, 2006
Plot Outline: An “average American”, is chosen for a top-secret hibernation program. The program is shut down and he is forgotten. He wakes up 500 years in the future to a dumbed down world. He wakes up to be the smartest man in the world.
Luke Wilson was absolutely perfect for this role. I cannot picture anyone else for this part. I LOVED this movie. It is extremely clever and just overall hilarious. There are times when you have to pay close attention to catch all of the clever little jokes. They are continuous throughout the film. Careful, or you will miss some.
Idiocracy was extremely comical and clever. I was very, very impressed by it but, it makes you think about the future of humanity. Be prepared to be afraid. Some of the jokes in the film are based on real life events or shows that are already in existence. It makes you realize that as technological and advanced the human race is, we are becoming a dumbed down society.
One thing I also really liked was the narration. It fades in and out to the point where it blends right into the movie. It just flows and fits right in.
Everyone must see this movie! It is definitely one of my favorites. I was so very impressed by it in every way. Ridiculously clever and hilarious. Go see it ASAP. You will forever be quoting this movie and referencing the funny jokes and situations.

A Single Man
My Rating: 2.5 out of 5 Stars
Release Date: 2009
Plot Outline: A professor contemplates suicide after the shocking death of the love of his life.
A Single Man was very uneventful; we follow a man, George (Colin Firth) that is depressed and contemplating suicide because his life is now incomplete without the love of his life. We follow him lead his dull, boring life. Though dull, I kind of liked A Single Man. Ironically, I wasn’t bored at all.
I was enjoying it, until the end that is. It was supposed to be ironic, I think, but it came off abrupt and I felt it was not properly lead up to.
George had this unsettling relationship with one of his students. Throughout the entire movie I thought they were going to sleep together.
The acting in this movie was phenomenal on all counts, especially Julianne Moore who never ceases to amaze me. She always becomes the character she plays. She is just incredible and so gorgeous. I can go on and on about how amazing she is. Actually, she is the only reason I watched this movie. I will see anything she is in because it is usually good.
I have mixed feelings about A Single Man. I liked it but I also hated it. I was intrigued as well as bored by it. Let me know what you thought.

The Zombie Vlogs
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 Stars
Plot Outline: Two friends, Lucas and Trevor that are filming a vlog, travel to their home town and begin to sense that something strange is going on.
The Zombie Vlogs is an independent zombie movie made with little-no budget, the cast were all volunteers, and the lighting and makeup were done by the writers and volunteers. Given all of that information, I was truly impressed with The Zombie Vlogs. As a zombie movie lover, I was curious and a bit weary to see how a zombie movie can be pulled off in such conditions and with such obstacles. I am pleased to say that it was pulled off very well.
The acting was better than I’ve seen in some blockbusters. There wasn’t too much dialogue or character development but that is typical of a zombie flick. There is not much to say besides “fuck” or “shit” when zombies are chasing you. And there is not much time to grow as a person. Though, it was cool to see the two characters, Lucas and Trevor grow in their own ways. At first they were running and scared but after a while they were running toward the zombies and kicking some ass. That was fun to watch. Also, their mood and energy levels changed. We witness them getting tired and worn out from the situation and constant running.
The characters were likeable and had great chemistry.
The makeup was fantastic.
The lighting and filming was cool because it appeared to be done with just a video camera. A vlog is usually done with a handheld video camera. A lot of the time it was dark and shaky. This was great because it effectively added to the mood of fear, anxiety, and the unknown. We are just as confused and discombobulated as the characters. One thing is that throughout the movie we can hear the wind and at times it is difficult to hear the characters.
I was curious to see how the movie was going to end. I was very happy with the ending. I couldn’t have asked for a cooler ending. Of course I am not going to give that away, so you will just have to check it out for yourself. ;)
Overall this hour and a half, independent zombie movie was interesting, captivating, and entertaining. I definitely recommend it.
This is J.C Doler’s first movie that will soon be released on Youtube. I thought it was fantastic and can’t wait to see his future works.

Just Go With It
My Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars
Plot Outline: A man convinces his friend/assistant to pretend to be his soon to be ex-wife to cover a lie he told a younger woman he is interested in.
Just Go With It was your typical Adam Sandler film. It wasn’t particularly amazing or hilarious and it had silly/stupid humor, but as I do with every Sandler film, I really enjoyed it. I have a love for Adam that cannot be explained.
Danny (Adam Sandler) and Katherine (Jennifer Aniston) were a great duo. I admired the dynamic between Danny and Katherine though it bothered me that they had been friends for years and he didn’t notice he had feelings for her until he saw her half naked.
The kids in the movie were adorable. They acted surprisingly well and were loveable.
I thought the plot was silly and it went in directions it didn’t need to but again, I love Adam Sandler and usually enjoy his movies. I recommend this if you’re in the mood for a silly, cute, comedy.
